IPL 2024 - Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad leads from the front, MS Dhoni at the crease as CSK win by 7 wickets

After Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were asked to bat and posted just 137 runs on the board, it's not surprising that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wouldn't be able to chase down this total, especially in their fortress - the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Match 22 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 delivered everything the fans wanted: a strong bowling performance, leadership from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, and even MS Dhoni coming to the crease to bat. CSK secured another victory at home by 7 wickets with 14 balls to spare making it 3 wins from three games at home.

The captain remained 67 runs not out and formed good partnerships with Rachin Ravindra (15 off 8), Daryl Mitchell (25 off 19), Shivam Dube (28 off 18), and Dhoni, who ran and took a run to allow Ruturaj Gaikwad to hit the winning shot.

While it was a walk in the park for the CSK batter, the KKR bowlers struggled to defend the low total as Vaibhav Arora picked up two wickets and Sunil Narine had one to his name.

The purple and gold team looked unsteady from the start when they came to bat, especially after losing Philip Salt on the very first ball for a duck. They managed to score 137 runs after losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs, with the highest scorer being KKR captain Shreyas Iyer (34 off 32 balls).

Following him, Sunil Narine (27 off 20) was the other highest scorer, followed by Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24 off 18), Ramandeep Singh (13 off 12), Rinku Singh (9 off 14), Andre Russell (10 off 10), impact sub Anukul Roy (3* off 3), and Vaibhav Arora (1* off 1). Venkatesh Iyer (3 off 8) and Mitchell Starc (0 off 3) hardly contributed.

For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande picked up three wickets each, while Mustafizur Rahman scalped two and Maheesh Theekshana had one to his name.

After this match, KKR still sit in the 2nd spot of the points table with three wins and one loss, while CSK continues to occupy the 4th position with three wins and two losses.
