IPL 2026: 5 debutants to watch out for in the upcoming season
Here are the 5 cricketers who can impress one and all in their debut IPL season.

As the IPL 2026 season kicks off on March 28, all eyes will be on the big-money signings and seasoned veterans. However, the true soul of the Indian Premier League has always been its ability to find and give a platform to "the next big thing." With the mega-auction reshuffle still fresh and several international stars making their league debuts, this season promises to be a launchpad for a new bunch of cricketers. Here are five debutants set to take the stage by storm in IPL 2026.

1. Blessing Muzarabani (Kolkata Knight Riders)

The Zimbabwean speedster is officially set for his IPL debut in 2026. Standing at 6'8", Muzarabani was signed by KKR as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman.

After his stunning ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, where he impressed one and all with his length and bounce, he will be a blessing in disguise for the three-time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders.

While he has been on the periphery of the league before, this is his first active contract where he is expected to take the field.

With no Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana there, Blessing surely will get his chances to prove his worth in the biggest cricket league in the world.

2. Cooper Connolly (Punjab Kings)

The 22-year-old Australian star is one of the most exciting talents this season.

Bought by Punjab Kings for ₹3 crore, Connolly brings a "Shaun Marsh-esque" left-handed style and vibe to the middle order.

Known for his finishing skills and handy left-arm spin, he is a versatile "utility" player who could be the x-factor Punjab Kings have been missing.

As we all know, Ricky Ponting loves his Aussie stars in the Punjab Kings; Connolly will get his opportunity to showcase what he has got.

He has already done well in the Big Bash League, and on the flat pitches in India, he can surely dominate with the bat.

3. Pathum Nissanka (Lucknow Super Giants)

It is quite harsh that we had to wait for a long time to see a talented batter like Pathum Nissanka in the Indian Premier League.

The Sri Lankan opener is finally making his IPL debut in 2026. After years of consistent scoring in international white-ball cricket, the Lucknow Super Giants secured his services to provide stability at the top.

His technique against both pace and spin makes him an ideal mix of aggression and stability for the Lucknow camp.

Of late, he has been one of the best white-ball openers in international cricket, and in that power-packed LSG batting lineup, he can be the 'X-factor'.

4. Kartik Sharma (Chennai Super Kings)

CSK made history by spending a staggering ₹14.2 crore for this 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Rajasthan. And, we all know that when CSK invests in a player, they make sure that the player gets enough opportunity to show their skills.

Kartik is a fearless top-order attacker who topped Rajasthan's run charts in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. With 26 sixes in the domestic competition earlier in the year, he is being groomed as a long-term successor to the MS Dhoni/Sanju Samson wicketkeeping lineage at CSK.

Although it would be hard for him to get games early in the season with Sanju and Dhoni being there, he will be a player to watch out for when he gets his chance. I have a feeling that he can be an 'impact sub' for CSK during the season.

5. Auqib Nabi Dar (Delhi Capitals)

Coming from the fast-bowling factory of Jammu & Kashmir, Auqib Nabi was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹8.40 crore after two sensational domestic seasons.

Nabi has proven in the domestic season why he has been touted as the best in Indian domestic cricket by helping J&K lift their maiden Ranji Title. Although the Indian Premier League will be altogether a new horizon, Nabi looks well-equipped for the challenge.

Nabi can bowl at around 135-140 kmph and finished as the highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy with 60 wickets. Moreover, he can be lethal with his lower-order batting as well.

With other Indian bowlers like Mukesh Kumar being there, Nabi might have to wait a few games to get his chance. But surely this would be his season to prove his worth in IPL.
