Suresh Raina, while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), scored a 16-ball fifty against Kings XI Punjab in the second qualifier of the IPL 2014 in Mumbai. Rain went to score 87 from 25 balls in the match, where CSK lost the match.
Ishan Kishan then matched Raina’s record while playing a blistering inning for the Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021 in Abu Dhabi. The left-handed opener scored 84 from 32 balls in a win for the Mumbai Indians.
In 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma equalled the record with 16-ball fifties. Head matched the record twice - once against the Delhi Capitals in Delhi, and another time in Hyderabad against Lucknow Super Giants. Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal broke the record for the fastest IPL fifty in history with a 13-ball fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2013 in Kolkata.
Jaiswal scored 48-ball 97 as Rajasthan chased down 150 in just 13.1 overs in one of the fastest chases in IPL history.
