The buzz around Sandeep Reddy Vanga's directorial Animal starring Ranbir Kapoor, has been present for close to four months now. While the intensity has now faded, the conversation around it resurrects every few weeks. The same is true for many other movies that have a subject that is not easily digestible and is very complex to wrap our heads around. While this conversation does have a healthy side to it, there is also a place in this realm where wars begin over movies and the content presented in them. But how does one choose a side then when they are in the system? Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is right now in the process of promoting one of the biggest films of his career, has now broken silence on how he looks at these debates.

Prithviraj Sukumaran On The Debate

Prithviraj Sukumaran was in Mumbai to promote his film The Goat Life when we had the chance to sit down with him and talk about the film, his thoughts on the business, and what he feels about the many things happening around us right now. When we asked him about movies igniting arguments and dividing people into two teams, how he looks at the entire row, and how he chooses on which side he wants to be, the actor was quick to say that art should not be censored and that filmmakers should have the freedom to present their thoughts without anyone telling them what to do.

In an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, Prithviraj said, “So I am a firm believer that art should not be censored. You can censor viewership, which we are doing. You can look at a film, decide, and say okay, there is a regulatory body that has decided that your film can only be seen by people above this age group. If you want to bring in a plus 21 rating, please feel free to bring it. You want to bring in a plus 25 rating, yeah, no problem. But you should not be going and telling an artist you cannot do that or you cannot make this. I am not a believer in that.”

“Censorship should happen in the exhibition sector. You should stop, if a film is rated 18 plus, you should stop people below 18 from entering the theatre. Other than that, I am not a believer that art should be censored. Artists should be free to create and say what they feel like they want to,” Prithviraj added.

Will Prithviraj Sukumaran Play A Character That Has No Values and Morals?

Further in the conversation, we asked Prithviraj Sukumaran about what things he won’t do as an actor. The actor revealed that he would love to play a man with no morals and values if the script was good. “I mean, of course, each one of us will have personal values and what we feel is right and wrong. But it largely depends on the characters that I am being offered. Will I play a bad, bad, bad man? I will, of course, play. Will I play a man with absolutely no values and morals? Yeah, I would play a man with absolutely no morals and values. That is what art is about. Art is not just about the good. It is about the good, the bad, and everything in between.”

Aadujeevitham, aka The Goat Life, is all set to release on March 28, 2024. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
