With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections around the corner, political parties have kicked off their election campaigns. The actor has now responded to the video, releasing an official statement claiming that he has never endorsed any political party. He added that deepfake videos are alarming.

The official statement released by Aamir's spokesperson reads that the actor has never endorsed any political party and that his team is alarmed by the viral, deepfake video. It said, “We want to clarify that Mr. Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections. We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue.”

The statement added that the matter has been reported to the concerned authorities in the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police. The actor also urged everyone to go out and vote to be an active part of the electoral process.

The truth behind Aamir Khan’s deepfake video

A video featuring actor Aamir Khan went viral last year, in which the actor urged people to vote responsibly and not vote for the BJP. The caption of the video reads, “Lo bhai Aamir Khan ka bhi video aa gaya BJP ke khilaf. Apna vote sahi jagaha do, Aap ka vote aapke baccho ka bhavishya decide karega. (Now, Aamir Khan has also urged people not to vote for the BJP. Cast your vote responsibly, as this vote will decide the future of your children).”

It was later revealed that the viral video was a deepfake, which was originally released in 2019. The actor was a part of an advertisement for the non-profit organisation MyNeta.info, which urges citizens to find out about the candidates in their constituency before voting.
