We are in March, and 2024 is three months old already. We have seen a lot of films and shows released, and keeping count is getting difficult. Indeed a very good problem to have. Now, as we speak, there is one more big movie up for release, and the trailer for the same dropped today. Ae Watan Mere Watan starring Sara Ali Khan in the lead is finally up for release this month, and the makers of the same have now shared the first trailer of the film that will be released directly on Amazon Prime Video. The trailer has certainly impressed many as the reaction of the internet is majorly positive, appreciating the scale, and many other things from the same.

Ae Watan Mere Watan is based on the life of Usha Mehta, a freedom fighter who fought the war for Indian freedom alongside popular fighters through her radio channel. She started the Congress Radio, which with time was called Secret Congress Radio, which spoke of the movement that would one day lead to India getting its independence. The resistance from the British government and the risk of life were never a concern for Usha, who fought with her head held high. The movie stars Sara Ali Khan as Usha, and the trailer has given us a sneak peek into the intense story of the woman who dared to dream big.

So as the trailer drops and many of us are intrigued by it, we also have expectations from the movie that is set to release in March later. Below are five expectations we have from Ae Watan Mere Watan, and we hope that the movie stands true to them. Read on.

Good Performances

While Sara Ali Khan continues to have a very vibrant screen presence, she has also delivered some very interesting performances. From the trailer, it seems like the actor has indeed worked hard for Ae Watan Mere Watan. She is also well-paired with actors like Sparsh Srivastava. Last seen in Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, the actor has proved his mettle on streaming and is now aiming for feature films. There is also Emraan Hashmi who plays Ram Manohar Lohia in the movie, and his glimpse is very interesting.

Great Background Music

What stands out in the trailer is also the background music which is catchy, very interesting, and fresh. Lately, there have been only set prototypes for scores and music in patriotic movies, but it feels like Ae Watan Mere Watan will indeed bring something fresh. There are credits mentioned for the BGM in any of the promotional material. Utkarsh Umesh Dhotekar is credited for the score, and he was also associated with Brahmastra, Dangal, and Chhichhore. This means the music is in good hands.

Visually Strong

The movie is visually very strong, as what the trailer hints at. Close to authentic sets, great lighting, and Ratna Dhanda’s costumes do help in creating a perfect era-appropriate picture of the world. In a period drama, it is always those costumes and sets that make a vast difference. Authenticity is important, and so is attention to detail. The movie needs to consistently have the two.

Interesting Approach

Kannan Iyer has directed Ae Watan Mere Watan and also written with Darab Farooqui. What impresses me in the trailer is that there is an evident balance between going melodramatic and sticking to telling a story. If that remains constant throughout the movie, it will cater to a wider spectrum, and with a release on OTT, we do expect something more than the staple.

Powerful Dialogues

The Ae Watan Mere Watan trailer also points at some very strong dialogues in the movie. Sara Ali Khan as Usha Mehta has over three catchy ones in the trailer itself. With both Kannan Iyer (Ek Thi Daayan) and Darab Farooqui (Dedh Ishqiya) coming from the Gulzar touch, we expect that the movie will have poetry and impact both packed in the lines.

Ae Watan Mere Watan releases on Amazon Prime Video on March 21, 2024. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
