Anyone But You, the most popular romantic comedy of this generation, will be available on Netflix on April 23. Despite a sluggish opening weekend, the film, starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, went on to become one of the most profitable R-rated romantic comedies of the last decade. In a world of predictable comedies and zero-stakes dramas, the movie became a true sensation and surprise thanks to its unprecedented word-of-mouth, great viral marketing via TikTok, and the great fun had by Sweeney and Powell while promoting and after its release.
Loosely based on William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, the plot follows Bea and Ben as they experience a dramatic shift in their passionate attraction following a fantastic first date. Surprisingly, they run into each other again at an Australian wedding, and they end up acting like a couple. Some of the supporting actors are Darren Barnet, Bryan Brown, Hadley Robinson, Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, and Rachel Griffiths.

Sweeney said in a recent feature that Powell and she were receiving numerous proposals to collaborate again every day, and she also mentioned that a sequel may perhaps materialise. In an interview with GQ, she said that they have been throwing around a bunch of different ideas. Their main goal is to satisfy our audience with fresh and exciting content while also pushing their creative boundaries.
At SXSW, Sweeney discussed the unexpected success of Anyone but You with Variety. She said that even simply thinking about it gives her the willies. The actor expressed her immense gratitude and excitement at the overwhelming love for the film. The magic of going to the movies is in the way it makes one forget about everything else, immerse themselves in the emotions they aimed for when they were making the film, and then one walks out of the theatre wanting to break into song and dance and fall in love.
The film made an impressive $207.6 million worldwide upon its theatrical run, thanks in large part to its stellar performance in multiplexes. On April 23, 2024, Anyone But You will make its Netflix debut. Until then, you can catch up with the film on Prime Video, where it's available for rent.
