Avatara Purusha, was initially conceived as a web series by director Suni, who then condensed it into 2 films. The plan was to release both parts within 90 days of each other, but that did not happen. While Avatara Purusha 1 – Ashtadigbandana Mandalakka came out in May 2022, the second instalment, Trishankupayanam, was delayed and finally managed a theatrical outing only a few weeks ago, when it came on April 5, 2024. Considering the minimal promotions that were done ahead of the theatrical release, it was thought that Avatara Purusha 2 would be on OTT within days, but it’s begun streaming only now.

The digital rights of Avatara Purusha, both Ashtadigbandana Mandalaka and Trishankupayanam, had been sold to Amazon Prime Video and the latter dropped on the platform today, without any advance notice. This has been the case with most of the Kannada films that have been picked up by the streamer, with the film teams or industry trackers doing the needful of announcing a new Kannada title arrival on OTT.

Avatara Purusha Ashtadigbandana Mandalakka was about the Jois family – Rama Jois (Saikumar) and his wife Susheela – who lost their only son Karna during a temple festival. The family home is also where Rama Jois’ father Brahma Jois had kept the magical Trishanku mani in safekeeping. Sharan plays Anila, a junior cine artiste, who is brought in to pretend to be the long-lost son, but then it turns out that he has an interest in the Jois family that goes beyond this current commitment.

The first instalment had ended with the actual Karna, who has grown up with a rival family as Kumara (Srinagara Kitty), attempting to break the magical bonds that hold the Trishanku mani and Anila trying to thwart that. But what is Anila’s interest in it. This is what Trishankupayanam explores? Also on the film’s cast are Ashutosh Rana, Balaji Manohar, Ashika Ranganath, among others
