Johnny Depp is currently embroiled in a court case involving domestic abuse allegations levelled against him by ex-wife Amber Heard. In a hearing recently, the actor, popularly known for playing Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, said he's not watched the series' first movie.
Matthew Belloni, the founder of Puck News (via Screen Rant), shared that the actor admitted that he's never seen Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the very movie that earned him a Best Actor Oscar nomination in 2004.
Screen Rant notes that Depp is not the first actor to have made a surprising claim like this, and neither this is the first time he's said something like this.
Jared Leto recently confessed to have not watched a single one of his movies in over two decades. Other actors like Meryl Streep, Joaquin Phoenix, Javier Bardem, and Reese Witherspoon have also shared their distaste for seeing their own work.
Heard had accused Depp of domestic abuse in an opinion article for Washington Post in 2018. He denied all allegations and sued Heard for defamation. The Aquaman actress sued back with a $100m counterclaim.
In the lawsuit, Heard called Depp abusive with alcohol dependency, which the latter's team refuted as a "hoax." In the trial on Tuesday, Depp told the jury, "I never struck Ms Heard in that way, nor have I struck any woman in my life."
He added that the allegations have "sort of permeated the industry," possibly referring to the fact that he was booted off a lot of high profile roles including Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.
