It has been six years since the commencement of Karan Johar’s parenthood journey. Karan Johar's twins Yash and Roohi were born on February 7, 2017. He is a single parent and welcomed his twins via surrogacy. While he continues to cherish the time he spends with his children, the filmmaker recently narrated how his journey has not been an easy one. At a press conference today, he detailed the challenges he faces as a parent and how actors Kajol, Rani Mukerji, and Kareena Kapoor Khan help him in the journey.

Karan Johar as a single parent

Addressing a press conference this evening after the wrap of Koffee with Karan Season 8 shoot, he said, “With time, you realize that relationships go through ups and downs. I would never want to go back to the time when we weren’t speaking (about single parents). I am glad that today I am strong as a friend. I never thought Kareena (Kapoor Khan; actor) and I would have children roughly around the same time.”

Mentioning that he feels like an ‘old parent’, Karan said, “When I had kids, I was 44 years old. I always thought I would be the oldest person in a PTM (Parents Teachers Meeting), a WhatsApp group, or my children's birthday party. But it is so far from the truth! Kareena had Taimur (Kareena’s child) just two months prior to Yash and Roohi’s birth. Rani (Mukerji; actor) had Adira (Rani’s child) a year before (Yash and Roohi were born). These two (Kareena and Rani) are my closest friends in the industry. We had kids around the same age.”

“Kajol (actor and mother of 2 kids) is also close to my kids. Sometimes, she behaves like one of them. I am glad that I have a support system comprising of these (three) friends. When you are a single parent, you have to know one thing. Barring the fact that I am eternally grateful to my mother for her constant support, I must say I am grateful to my friends. They are all there with me whenever I need them. Despite having differences (with Rani, Kajol and Kareena) in the past, I am glad that we all are together now and are stronger than before,” he wrapped up.

Koffee with Karan Season 8 can be viewed anytime on Disney Plus Hotstar.
