Ever since director Mari Selvaraj's political drama Maamannan dropped on OTT, the film seems to have taken a massive opening. The political drama, which is currently streaming on Netflix, has been trending on number one on the OTT platform across the country. This development has come as a great news for the team and the director shared the same on his social media handle.

The plot revolves around Maamannan, an MLA from an oppressed community, who is discriminated against due to his caste. The film explores how individuals from oppressed communities must constantly navigate the complexities of a system that perpetuates inequality. It also sheds light on the struggle individuals from marginalized backgrounds have to endure to gain even a speck of power.

The film has Vadivelu, Fahadh Faasil, Udhayanidhi Stalin and Keerthy Suresh in the lead. Meanwhile, the film has come in for a lot of praise from popular author Appadurai Muttulingam. The Sri Lankan author, who currently lives in Canada, watched the film on Netflix and said that he loved the film. The author said that Mari Selvaraj has conveyed his ideas clearly in the film and this career trajectory was only growing stronger.

Fahadh Faasil plays a ruthless politician belonging to an affluent family and dominant caste, who is constantly at loggerheads with Maamannan and his son Athiveeran (Udhayanidhi Stalin) Keerthy Suresh plays a communist in the film.

Mari Selvaraj shared the same on his social media handle and wrote, "And that's from my beloved writer!! This will be treasured!! Thank you Sir! #Maamannan #1indiaonNetflix #MaamannanBlockbuster (sic)."

The socio-political drama also questions the prejudice and the caste discrimination amongst political parties that have social justice as their ideology. The film is being lauded for its bold stance.
