The year was 1998 and the date was September 4, when a film titled ‘Gunda’ was released. The film starred Mithun Chakraborty, Mukesh Rishi, Ishr at Ali, Shakti Kapoor, Razak Khan and Rami Reddy in the role of Kala Shetty. Contrary to the expectations of many in the trade as well as the fans of Mithun Chakraborty, the film ‘Gunda’ did not perform at the box-office. But, what happened over the years was beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.

With social media gaining momentum, the film ‘Gunda’, despite being a commercial failure was a ‘hit’ amongst the netizens. The fans just could not get over the film’s scenes… mostly which dey logic as well as human imagination! This, then, gave rise to many memes and there started a meme-fest over the film ‘Gunda’. In an interview with ETimes, Mithun Chakraborty’s on Namashi Chakraborty was asked to name one film that he wished his father Mithun Chakraborty hadn’t done. To which, Namashi Chakraborty said he felt that his father Mithun Chakraborty should not have done ‘Gunda’, a film which was infamous and that it was so notorious for its interesting content. He added that, today’s generation and a lot of people thought that his father Mithun Chakraborty was only capable of doing films like that. He also added that, what he meant was that, he loved the film, but given his father’s stature, he shouldn’t have done that film.

As for Namashi Chakraborty, he is all geared up to make his Bollywood debut. The film which will act as his launch vehicle is ‘Bad Boy’. The film also sees Namashi Chakraborty’s illustrious father Mithun Chakraborty doing a special appearance in the film’s song ‘Janabe Ali, a song that is gradually climbing up the popularity tracks.

‘Bad Boy’ has been directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. Besides Namashi Chakraborty, the film ‘Bad Boy’ also stars Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Darshan Jariwa la and Saswata Chatterjee in important roles. The film is being readied to be theatrically released on April 28 this year.
