After the wide release of B Unnikrishnan’s Aaraattu earlier this month, makers of another Mohanlal-starrer are eyeing a March release for their film. Monster – the superstar’s second collaboration with Pulimurugan director and scriptwriter, Vysakh and Udaykrishna, - will reportedly be his third theatrical release since the pandemic.
According to reports, the movie, which is produced by Antony Perumbavoor, is looking at a March 18 release. This would also set up a clash with either Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute and Nivin Pauly’s Thuramukham – both of which were initially slated for a January release and had been postponed due to the Omicron threat.
There has been no official announcement regarding the release dates of all three films, while sources from Rajeev Ravi’s Thuramukham have confirmed to us that the movie will be a March release.
Mohanlal wrapped up the shoot of Vysakh’s Monster earlier this year. The film, which also has Lakshmi Manchu, Sudev Nair and Honey Rose, is an investigative thriller, written by Udaykrishna, who had also scripted the superstar’s most recent release Aaraattu.
In an interview with OTTplay, Udaykrishna told us that Monster is an experimental thriller filled with a lot of twists in the second half. Mohanlal plays Lucky Singh in the film, which was wrapped up in 55 days during the pandemic.
“When I approach a script, I either take the route that the audience expects it to travel or bring twists and turns that the viewers don’t see coming. Those are two types of formula and I have used the former for Aaraattu and the latter for Monster,” said Udaykrishna.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal, who is currently busy with the shoot of his directorial debut Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, has also wrapped up the shoot of Jeethu Joseph’s mystery-drama 12th Man and Shaji Kailas’ Alone. The former will be a direct-to-OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar. The producers are yet to decide on the status of the Shaji Kailas directorial, which is a single-actor film.
