Ana Lily Amirpour has been a filmmaker who has managed to draw an audience just by her name since her initial movies. The filmmaker who entered the director’s list with her first feature film, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, came back to serve her audience with her second movie, The Bad Batch. The first two left the audience wanting more from this filmmaker, who was offering content different from what was otherwise available. Soon, she confirmed her third film, titled Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon. The film, released in 2021, was one of the most headline-making movies. Starring Kate Hudson in the lead, the movie, even with mixed reviews, did a festival run and was finally on the big screen.
It turns out it is now about to have a new life as it is set to release on Lionsgate Play in India. The streamer has been serving many films that have had their theatrical and digital premieres again on their platform. In the past few days, they have released Dream Scenario, Copshop, and are about to release Adrift, Wanted Man, and even Love Island UK Season 9. Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon now joins the list, and below is all you need to know about it.
Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, delves into the seedy underbelly of New Orleans. The thriller is about Mona Lisa, played by Jun Jong Seo, who escapes from a mental institution and becomes friends with an exotic dancer and single mother, Bonnie, played by Kate Hudson. We soon learn that Mona has some otherworldly talents, and she hatches a criminal plan with Bonnie. When a detective gets on their trail, they are left with no option but to save themselves.
The film will now stream on Lionsgate Play. Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon doesn't have an exact release date yet, but it should be released on the platform by the end of June or the beginning of July.
While talking to Collider about choosing Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, Kate Hudson spoke about selecting the script. She said, “I had never played a character like Bonnie before. What I’m looking for right now and what’s gonna take me away from my family is a good script, a great director, and a role where there are two or three scenes that I really cannot wait to play. That’s really what it ends up boiling down to. And Bonnie, as a character, the way she’s written, it was all on the page. Lily really put it on the page. It’s such a survivor story. Bonnie says everything that you’re not supposed to say, does everything you’re not supposed to do, and plays by her own rules.”
Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon will be streaming on Lionsgate Play and can be accessed with your OTTplay Premium subscription. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else in the world of streaming and films.
