The intense trailer for Prime Video's original crime series, Poacher, is out. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Richie Mehta created, wrote, and produced the new series, in which Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya play important roles. Poacher, an eight-part criminal thriller, is based on true events and uncovers the biggest ivory poaching gang in Indian history.

Unsung heroes

The trailer gives a sneak peek at the tragic truth of the relentless slaughter of elephants. In their dogged pursuit to uncover the greatest ivory poaching ring in Indian history, they follow a varied collection of wildlife guardians, including forest crime fighters, police officers, and good Samaritans. But will the defenceless elephants, who suffered in silence as a result of these crimes, get what they deserve? At its heart, this provocative crime series revolves around this very subject. Through its depiction of real-life incidents, Poacher effectively showcases the perils that these species encounter due to human beings' relentless pursuit of personal wealth.

Check out the trailer below:

Meeting the unsung heroes who are fighting injustice and crime without a cape motivates you to share their tale with the world, because every story has a hero. Dedicated forest service officers, passionate members of wildlife conservation and protection organisations, and animal lovers—people who risk their lives to prevent the endangerment of animal species due to the greed of poachers—are the heroes of Poacher.

In a statement, Mehta said that he thinks the show will show viewers how complicated and interconnected our species is with all others and how their actions can have far-reaching consequences if they disrupt the natural equilibrium. At the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the series had a really positive and touching reception, so the filmmaker is overjoyed that they can now share it with viewers thanks to Prime Video.

Alia Bhatt's pride

Alia Bhatt, who is the executive producer of the series, shared that it's a source of immense pride for her, and that their entire team at Eternal is a part of this series. Poacher serves as a rallying cry for action against the tragic and serious problem of wildlife trafficking and poaching. The world needs more people like Richie to speak out about the critical need to protect wildlife and teach people how to live in harmony with all other forms of life. It makes her extremely grateful that QC Entertainment and Prime Video were her partners in bringing this story to life.

Actors' perspectives

Nimisha Sajayan, who plays the dedicated Forest Department officer, Mala Jogi, went on to say that the time she has spent working with Poacher has been life-altering. Her character is intricately layered, with the nuances of a strong-willed forest official, deep empathy, and a love for wildlife. With anxieties about bringing the poachers to justice, she goes above and beyond the call of duty to expose the intricate web of ivory trafficking. Human activities will forever change animals and the environment, and the series will prompt viewers to reflect on this. Being a part of an honest initiative that brings attention to such a crucial problem is an honour, and she is glad the narrative was shared.

According to Roshan Mathew, who plays the part of Alan Joseph, an NGO worker in the show, Poacher deftly addresses the terrible problem of animal poaching for nefarious purposes, and he couldn't be happier to be a part of it. The show delves into the intricate web of corruption, cover-ups, and crimes surrounding elephant ivory poaching, which was both theoretically and creatively thrilling. The actor considers it a great fortune to portray a character who is so concerned about the environment and fights to keep it safe, as he can relate to the cause. This series is a must-watch for fans of crime dramas, thanks to Richie's expert direction and the genuine tale.

Immediately captivated by the writing, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, who portrays the role of Neel Bannerjee, the field director from the Kerala Forest Department, had an overwhelming desire to be a part of the story. While he has enjoyed every character he has played in his acting career—in a wide variety of projects—Poacher is the one that he will always remember. The story's pull on one's conscience evokes a wide range of feelings, including wrath, grief, hopelessness, and rage. Such tales must be told in order to have a more profound effect on society. The message is to appreciate and hold dear every kind of existence. He is eagerly anticipating the viewers' responses to the series.
