Debutant Vignesh Raja is directing the project which is billed as a whodunit
Ashok Selvan and Sarath Kumar
The Tamil actor to have had the most number of releases last year was Ashok Selvan; he had seven outings including two cameos. He currently has two films in his kitty, Nirman's Nenjamellam Kaadhal and an untitled project under Pa Ranjith's production.
The actor has now signed his next - debutant Vignesh Raja is at the helm of the movie - that has been titled Por Thozhil. Sarath Kumar has been roped in to play a pivotal role in it while Nikhila Vimal will be essaying the female lead. It marks Ashok's return to the thriller genre after Thegidi which was a turning point in his career.
Applause Entertainment is bankrolling the film along with E4 Experiments and Eprius Studio. The makers have unveiled a title teaser which hints at Por Thozhil being a cop drama. Though the team hasn't revealed anything pertaining to its plot, it looks like the movie revolves around a murder and a police investigation.
The film brings Ashok Selvan and Sarath Kumar together for the first time. The latter has been on a signing spree after the success of Ponniyin Selvan 1 and Varisu. He is part of around 20 movies now in Kollywood.
Nikhila returns to Kollywood with this project after a short hiatus. Sibiraj's long-delayed film Ranga was her previous outing in Tamil. Alfred Prakash has written story and screenplay along with Vignesh for Por Thozhil which is expected to hit the screens this year.
Sameer Nair, Deepak Segal, Mukesh Mehta, CV Sarathi, Poonam Mehra and Sandeep Mehra have been producing the film. We will have to wait and see which among Ashok's ongoing three projects would be released first in theatres.
