Whenever a new update of Merry Christmas was announced, Radhika Apte, along with the lead actors Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, shared it on her social media pages. Now, it has been revealed that Radhika Apte is a part of the film but has only filmed one scene. Yes, Radhika has a special appearance in the Sriram Raghavan film, and she has earlier been a part of his outings, namely Badlapur (2015) and Andhadhun (2018).
Loyalty to Sriram Raghavan's films
Talking about her cameo in Merry Christmas, the actor told News18 that the only reason she did so was because of the special relationship she enjoys with the filmmaker. Radhika stated, "I’ll always be a part of Sriram’s films, even if it’s for a scene. For Merry Christmas, he told me, ‘It’s just one scene. Will you come?’ I told him that I, of course, would. We always have so much fun."
The actor further said that she is fine with playing a cameo role, but that she is constantly trying to persuade Sriram to give her a more substantial role in his movies. Radhika shot for Merry Christmas for two nights, and it was a lot of fun. In her sadness, she has told him that he shouldn't treat her like this all the time. But the actor is there for him when he needs her, since they are incredibly good pals. Radhika would do it for Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap too, because they're really close and old friends.
Navigating the film industry and personal choices
Since Radhika is also experimenting with scriptwriting at the moment, she claims she has no reservations about accepting supporting roles in films. She is in the middle of trying to make things happen herself, and she can attest to the fact that actors are notoriously picky about what they will and will not do. It's nothing personal; that's how business operates. Radhika has no idea if she is making foolish choices or if they will pay off in the long run. However, she explains that there have been many moments in her life when she has said yes to things because she enjoys the company of the individuals involved and the nature of their work.
Further revealing her thoughts on how it prompted her to make Merry Christmas, Radhika never really thought about how big or tiny the project is. Pooja Ladha Surti is a close friend of mine, in addition to being Sriram's co-writer, associate director, and editor. They have a blast together in the studio, the three of us. In any scene, they try so many various things and play about them, and that's what she loves.
Talking about Vijay, Radhika went on to gush about the actor by saying that she had just seen Vikram Vedha (2017) and Merry Christmas. The actor revealed that she should probably go back and check out the rest of his stuff now that she has seen this. But in her opinion, he's great; he's that fantastic. Radhika added that he has a wow-screen presence and called him a very kind guy.
