Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has left Chennai for New Delhi to take part in Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony which will take place at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the country's capital, on Sunday. Rajinikanth said that it is a huge achievement that Modi has been able to assume the office for the third consecutive time as the prime minister.

Rajinikanth to attend Modi’s oath-taking ceremony 

Rajinikanth has left Chennai to attend the oath-taking ceremony in New Delhi where Narendra Modi of Bharatiya Janata Party will be assuming the prime minister’s office for the third time. Addressing the press, Rajinikanth said, “After Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi will be assuming as the country's prime minister for the third time. This is his achievement.”

Speaking to ANI, Rajinikanth said, "It is a historic event and I congratulate prime minister Modiji my best for the consecutive third time for becoming prime minister."

The 2024 Indian General Elections concluded on June 4 after the votes were counted and results announced. Despite not winning by a landslide margin, the BJP-led NDA alliance will be forming the government with Modi christened as the prime minister for the third consecutive time.

Rajinikanth was last seen in Jailer which released in 2023. The actor has announced two films, Vettaiyan and Coolie in the pipeline. Vettaiyan, which is scheduled to release in theatres in October, is directed by filmmaker TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim fame. Vettaiyan is produced by Lyca Productions and will feature a star cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan and others.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is also working with filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj for a film titled Coolie. The film is bankrolled by Sun Pictures and has music by Anirudh Ravichander. The makers of Coolie released a teaser some time ago, and are yet to announce the cast and technical crew members. A release date for Coolie is yet to be announced.
