It is likely that any person who runs into Rian Johnson will ask him about the Knives Out 3. The enterprising filmmaker, known for his diverse work ranging from hardboiled neo-noir mystery to a high-profile Star Wars vehicle, is currently bestowed with the task of adding a new instalment to his already successful Knives Out franchise, headlined by Daniel Craig.

When recently asked about the development of the project, Johnson assured that Knives Out 3 was definitely coming along and that following the brief pause caused by the writers' strike, he is now "diving in full force" into the process. "I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing,” said Johnson.

The topic of the Knives Out film came up during his main conversation with The Wrap wherein, along with his production partner Ram Bergman, he discussed his special incubator program T-Street. Through T-Street, Johnson and Bergman have extended a helping hand to talented and budding filmmakers such as Cord Jefferson and Chloe Domont.

Rian Johnson scored a major unprecedented success in the 2019 Knives Out, a whodunit mystery starring Daniel Craig in the role of Benoit Blanc. Blanc is a famed private detective who is assigned with the stiff task of solving the murder of bestselling author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) which is ruled out as a suicide at first. Thrombey's vast and highly dysfunctional family enters Benoit Blanc's radar of suspects and so does the author's nurse Marta Cabrera. Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette and others, too, are part of the principal cast of Knives Out.

Johnson would follow up the success with Knives Out 2 after Netflix acquired the rights of the two sequels for a mega price of $469 million, making it one of the most expensive deals of modern times. Knives Out 2, or Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, released on Netflix on December 23, 2022, to highly positive reviews and audience response.
