Urvashi-starrer J Baby director Suresh Mari reveals THIS actor was his second option to play lead role

Veteran actor Urvashi will be headlining the upcoming Tamil film J Baby which is set to hit theatres on March 8 (Friday) for the occasion of Women's Day. With Urvashi playing the titular role, the director of the film, Suresh Mari, recently revealed if Urvashi had not taken up the role, he had actor Radhika Sarathkumar as second option for J Baby.

J Baby is Suresh Mari's directorial debut and also stars Attakathi Dinesh and Lollu Sabha Maran in the lead roles. The film is backed by Pa Ranjith's Neelam Productions.

The audio launch of J Baby took place on Monday. Speaking at the event, Suresh Mari had revealed that Urvashi was the first option he had in mind to play the titular character. Mentioning that J Baby is inspired by true incidents that took place in his aunt’s life, the director revealed that if not for Urvashi, he would have approached Radhika Sarathkumar for the role.

Speaking at the event, Suresh said, “When I was writing, I did not have anyone in mind since it is based on real character. But my first option was Urvashi mam and had she rejected the film, I thought of approaching Radhika mam for the character. But when I narrated the story, she loved it but was still sceptical to play a grandmother. But I was confident that only she can pull off the character the best.” The director also added that the character is very volatile and only someone like Urvashi can play the role with ease.

What else did Suresh Mari say?

The director added that Urvashi was able to perform in real locations. "Her character is inspired from my aunt. The way she pulled out the character moved me. There have been times when I have cried on sets seeing her perform." He also added J Baby will be an important film in Urvashi’s career and it will be celebrated on big screens.

J Baby is set to release on March 8. The trailer of the film was released recently and revealed the storyline. With Dinesh and Maran playing the sons, the film will revolve around the search for their mother who walks out of the house one day.
