While Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi were the only two big ticket films scheduled for release in January 2026, a new film will be joining the list. Though not for Pongal, Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Gandhi Talks will be hitting theatres on January 30, the makers confirmed on social media on Saturday.

Actor Vijay Sethupathi who was last seen in Thalaivan Thalaivii, will be starring in Tamil film Gandhi Talks. The film was made a few years ago and had a run at the festival circuit. The makers of the film on Saturday announced the release date. Gandhi Talks will be releasing on January 30, 2026 in theatres.

Gandhi Talks is designed as a silent film with an ensemble cast including Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swamy, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Siddharth Jadhav. The music for Gandhi Talks has been scored by AR Rahman. In the absence of spoken words, Rahman’s score is expected to serve as the narrator and emotional guide, for the film’s landscape.

The film is helmed by director Kishore Belekar. Speaking about Gandhi Talks, he said in a statement, “Gandhi Talks is a film about trusting silence. As Indian cinema marks over a century of storytelling, we wanted to return to the medium’s most elemental form pure performance and emotion. The actors embraced that vulnerability completely, and A.R. Rahman’s score became the film’s voice. With Zee Studios’, Meera Chopra’s support, we were able to make a bold, honest piece of cinema.”

Vijay Sethupathi has a couple of projects line-up, which are in the making. Apart from Gandhi Talks, the actor is also part of Arasan the upcoming Silambarasan-Vetrimaaran film, a project with Puri Jagannadh, Mysskin directorial Train, and a JioHotstar web series Kaattaan which is helmed by Manikandan.
