Malayalam actor Shane Nigam’s upcoming movie Haal, which had been at the centre of controversies, is finally set for a Christmas 2025 release. Ahead of its delayed release, the makers of the film released a trailer, which follows its lead character, a Kerala rapper, who is smitten by a girl. But a simple tale of romance becomes a burning issue as communal and terrorist angles get added to it.

The 2025 Malayalam movie Haal, starring Shane Nigam and Sakshi Vaidya, is helmed by Veera. The Haal trailer begins with Shane Nigam introducing himself to a pretty girl (played by Sakshi Vaidya) as a rapper, Aasi. We see colourful frames as Asfi tries to woo the girl, who is portrayed as a Christian. The religious identity appears to be crucial to the film, as we see Aasi getting interrogated by the authorities who question his intentions and the lyrics of his rap songs that they allege to be anti-national. The officials accuse him of seeking to woo the young girl, only to get her recruited to the terror network of IS. An emotional Aasi pleads that he is unaware of anything else and that he is only in love with her.

The trailer then cuts to show intense and emotional scenes as Aasi seeks to fight for his love, against police and law forces.

The rest of the cast of actors Johny Antony, Suresh Krishna, and Sangitha Madhavan Nair are also featured in the Haal trailer. Reports of Keralites getting recruited to terror outfits had led to major political and social ramifications in the state.

Haal movie release date

Haal had run into controversies after the Censor Board objected to certain scenes in the film, which was initially supposed to release in theatres in September 2025. Now, the Shane Nigam-starrer will release on December 25, 2025, clashing with Nivin Pauly’s film Sarvam Maya with Aju Varghese. Marco actor Unni Mukundan’s film Mindiyum Paranjum with Aparna Balamurali will also hit theatres for Christmas this year, along with Mohanlal’s much-anticipated Vrusshabha.

On the other hand, Shane's last release Balti is expected to make it OTT release on Prime Video soon. The film will also be available for OTTplay Premium subscribers with a top-up.
