Director Thiagarajan Kumararaja might have helmed only two films, but enjoys a cult following for his style. Ever since his last release in 2019, Super Deluxe, fans have been asking the filmmaker to direct a film and they now have an answer. Thiagarajan Kumararaja has announced his next with Vijay Sethupathi titled Pocket Novel.

Thiagarajan Kumararaja who hasn't had a theatrical release for seven years now, has announced a new film. The project will see the director pair up with his Super Deluxe actor Vijay Sethupathi for the second time.

Titled Pocket Novel, the film will feature Vijay Sethupathi in his second collaboration with the director after Super Deluxe. Apart from him, the upcoming film will also feature Malavika Mohanan, Raj B Shetty and Kishore in prominent roles. Thiagarajan who has expressed himself as ardent Ilaiyaraaja fan, will be collaborating with the veteran music composer for the upcoming film. The shooting for Pocket Novel has begun. with the release date yet to be announced. It will be out in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. Shot by Nirav Shah, Andrew Louis has written the story and screenplay. Sathyaraj Natarajan is the editor.

Thiagarajan Kumararaja has made two feature films so far, Aaranya Kaandam and Super Deluxe, besides creative producing Modern Love Chennai anthology and directing a segment in it. Aaranya Kaandam is a 2010 gangster action film which revolves around the lives of six people who get entangled as they get caught in a crossfire. The film is available for streaming on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium. Actors Jackie Shroff, Ravi Krishna, Sampath Raj, Yasmin Ponnappa, Guru Somasundaram and others are part of the cast. Though the film did not create much box office noise, it went on to become a celebrated film.

Meanwhile Super Deluxe is a hyperlink film featuring Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Ramya Krishnan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Mysskin and others. The film is about Shilpa, a transgender woman returning home to her family after years, only to face rejection and shock. In another plot, an unfaithful wife and her lover panic when her husband unexpectedly returns. Elsewhere, a group of teenage boys grapple with guilt only to see one of their mothers in a porn film they rented to watch, while a couple’s marital discord turns philosophical and surreal. Super Deluxe is streaming on Aha via OTTplay Premium.
