Shortly after the Prathichaya trailer dropped on February 17 night, fans were quick to point out that this dialogue was similar to the one in Mohanlal’s film Thudarum, in possibly a hat-tip to the veteran star. In director Tharun Moorthy’s Thudarum, Mohanlal’s character Benz Shanmugham says in a key scene, “Eni njan parayum, neeyoke kelkum (Now, I will talk and you guys will listen)”. Fans are just delighted to see the Thudarum reference in the Nivin Pauly movie.

But not just the Mohanlal film, fans were also quick to spot the references to recent Kerala political events. Fan pages have pointed out that scenes featuring the mass programmes of Kerala Chief Minister were in fact the JanaSambarka paripadi of former CM Oommen Chandy and the standoff over the infamous solar case, which jolted the government in 2013.
