Malayalam actor Asif Ali’s latest film Sarkeet made its OTT debut on Manorama Max on September 26, 2025. The film, which portrays the heartwarming bond between a struggling youth and a hyperactive kid, has been winning much love ever since its OTT debut. Netizens are particularly in love with Asif Ali’s performance, equating it to another stellar acting this year - Basil Joseph’s performance in Ponman.

‘Sarkeet is Asif Ali’s Ponman’

The 2025 Malayalam film, starring Asif Ali in the lead role, is helmed by Thamar KV. The film, which released in theatres on May 8, garnered positive reviews from critics but was not much of a crowd-pleaser. After it dropped on OTT last week, Sarkeet has managed to impress most of its viewers with overwhelmingly positive reviews pouring in.

One netizen said Sarkeet is “A genuine feel-good drama with a terrific #AsifAli representing all struggling middle-class youngsters, take a bow PonMan of Asif Ali this year.”

Some even equated him to the likes of Fahadh Faasil, who is regarded as the finest actor of the current generation of Malayalam cinema. Some other netizens found the film to be an average fare, but rated Asif Ali’s performance, especially in emotional scenes, as impressive.

“Solid emotional drama film... Loved it Fantastic performance by Asif Ali,” and “Sarkeet was good. Asif ikka carried it effortlessly,” are some of the comments on Twitter.

The film revolves around a child with ADHD and his parents as they struggle to care for him amid their busy careers.

Director Thamar KV, who previously helmed 1001 Nunakal, also won appreciation for choosing a relevant subject in today’s times and portraying it sensitively.

Orhan Hyder plays the kid Jeppu, while Divya Prabha and Deepak Parambol appear as his parents. Remya Suresh and Alexander Prasanth are also part of the film.

On the other hand, Ponman starring Basil Joseph released earlier this year. Basil Joseph too won rave reviews upon Ponman’s OTT release on JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium), with Hindi filmmaker Anurag Kashyap hailing him as the ‘coolest everyman actor.’
