Raj B Shetty was the best kept secret of the Kannada film Su From So, even though, he’d denied his presence in it earlier. While there were murmurs that he was in the film after all after the initial premieres, much before the actual theatrical release, there were no spoilers on social media and when the reveal finally happened on July 25, 2025, it was that he had a role, but not what was widely speculated. The shot of the sari-clad person’s leg in the trailer was not Raj; instead, he was seen as Karunakar guruji, a spiritual ‘guide’ brought in to exorcise the spirit of Sulochana From Someshwar from the protagonist, Ashoka, played by director JP Thuminad.

(Spoilers ahead) Despite being a popular face on TV, Karunakar guruji turns out to be to be a fraud who has no idea how to deal with Ashoka and the situation plaguing the village, which, of course, the villagers don’t get a whiff off. In the process of this con, though, he sets in motion a series of events that forever changes the lives of two people – Ravi Anna (Shaneel Gautham) and Bhanu (Sandhya Arekere).

Ravi anna meets Bhanu

When the villagers had deduced Sulochana’s earlier whereabouts and go to visit her next of kin, Ravi Anna realizes that it’s the house of the very first girl he’d seen during his (continuing) bride hunt. He confides this info to guruji, who, in turn, announces that Ravi anna would drop (and later pick up too) Bhanu to her home, after her ‘sessions’ with her ‘mother’. Eventually, Ravi Anna and Bhanu are together, making Karunakar not an entire failure. He may not have chased away one spirit, but he sure did unite two souls who were destined to be together.

Also starring Prakash Thuminad, Deepak Rai Panaje, Pushparaj Bollar, Mime Ramadas and many others, Su From So is the highest grossing Kannada film of 2025 so far. The film is currently in theatres with a Malayalam version as well, which came out a week later on August 1. A Telugu-dubbed version will release on August 8. While there were reports of a Hindi version also hitting theatres, it is now said that the team has been approached for Hindi remake rights instead.
