While Hollywood prepares to see massive films release this year—from Dune Part 2 to Deadpool 3 and Joker: Folie à Deux, aka Joker 2—there is one movie that has definitely managed to make a decent buzz amid all those tent-pole films. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire walks with a resume of some very interesting predecessors but is a very fresh take on the franchise if one observes it closely this time. So when the trailer for the movie dropped a couple of days ago, we were all left fascinated by this new take, and it took hours to process what we were signing up for.

Paul Rudd is the star of the 2 minutes, 25 second long trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which has a brand-new plot. New York is in danger as a possessed artefact has unleashed a ghost in the city that is engulfing the city by freezing everything in the way. The trailer takes us through the story with a whole lot of humour and the correct amount of fear to excite us all. This time, Gil Kenan will be in charge of directing Frozen Empire, which will use the 2021 film Ghostbusters: Afterlife as its source material.

So, as we are all pumped up for the release of the movie in April 2024, here are five highlights so you are also equally excited. Read on.

The Research Lab

The crux of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is that the Spengler family ends up meeting the real Ghostbusters, and they see that the latter has created a research lab on the subject. The lab has many spirits walking around working inside. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man's smaller versions are also seen in the same lab, and this is enough proof that we will see some family ghosts too, some of who have joined the Busters and others who side with the big bad.

The Ghostbusters Organisation Might Shut Shop

A very blink-and-miss glimpse in the trailer gives us an idea that the Frozen Empire will see the Ghostbusters Organisation shutting down as the place is destroyed. There is no confirmation, but we know for a fact that the Ghostbusters are going nowhere without taming the evil ghosts who have put New York City in danger.

The Cast

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will lure an entire section of the audience with its cast. There is our very own Ant-Man, Paul Rudd, leading the show, who is joined by Finn Wolfhard (Mike from Stranger Things). The rest of the ensemble includes Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts.

Big Ghost

You see those ice thrones laid all over New York City? You see a man breaking into ice pieces after being frozen? You see how the cab driver is scared after looking at the storm in the sky? This seems to be one of the biggest ghosts we have seen so far in the franchise. Nothing much has been revealed about the big villain, but a couple of glimpses tell us that it is dreadful and too dangerous.

The Visuals

We have to give it to the technical department for blending the real and CGI worlds so well. Nothing feels unreal, at least in the trailer, and that is definitely a big win. Ghostbusters is a franchise that relies heavily on visuals, and it definitely seems like the team has outdone itself.
