Mr. and Mrs. Iyer

Mr. and Mrs. Iyer is a 2002 film directed by Aparna Sen, starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Rahul Bose.

The movie revolves around two people who explore the beliefs of each other’s religion through a long and perilous journey. Meenakshi Iyer travels from her parent’s house with her infant son on a bus. During her journey, she meets Raja.

Later, all the roads get blocked due to the Hindu-Muslim riots, and at this moment, Raja tells Meenakshi the truth about being a Muslim. Despite being a Hindu and fearing Raja because of his religion, Meenakshi protects him from the Hindu Mob, introducing him as Mr. Iyer. Their journey extends and soon Meenakshi witnesses a horrifying murder, but Raja comforts her.

Meenakshi realizes that Raja being a Muslim, helped her a lot and that the religion of a person is irrelevant. Both Raja and Meenakshi understand the depth and beliefs of each other’s religion.
