Following the dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane (1 off 3), Daryl Mitchell (11 off 10), and Ravindra Jadeja (16 off 19), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad strode to the crease and delivered a masterful performance against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 39 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Gaikwad crafted a splendid innings, scoring 100 runs off 56 balls, marking his second century in the IPL and his first on Indian soil. 

Gaikwad reached the three-figure mark in deliveries and struck 11 fours and 3 sixes along the way at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Pune-based batsman, who made his IPL debut in 2020, was appointed as CSK's captain this year and has proven to be lethal. Gaikwad's first century came against the Rajasthan Royals during the 2021 season of the IPL.

In the clash, CSK, after being asked to bat first, posted 210 runs and lost 4 wickets in the 20 overs. While Ruturaj went on to score 108 not out of 60 balls, his partner Shivam Dube smashed 66 runs off 27 balls. MS Dhoni came to the crease to face just a ball and smashed a four.

As for LSG, the bowlers Matt Henry, Mohsin Khan, and Yash Thakur took the three wickets, but they were also hit for runs.
