It’s time to witness the second Marvel Cinematic Universe project of the year as the studio now adapts to quality over quantity. After Echo season 1, the studio now moves on to its second Disney+ series of the year, which is all set to take a look at the mutants and their world in the most nostalgic setup possible. X-Men ’97 is one of the most anticipated shows this year, and the demand for the same is massive at this point, considering the phase ahead for Marvel is about the mutants because Deadpool & Wolverine are set to introduce the clan in a much bigger way.
So a warm-up of sorts, the Disney+ show X-Men ‘97 does have a massive curiosity attached to it. The makers have now released the confirmed release date, the entire series calendar, episode names, and how the season will be divided. Marvel is attempting a three-episode finale for the first time for any show, and things are just getting bigger and better for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems.
A follow-up to the series that aired back in the day, X-Men ’97 will mark the first project that will delve into the world of mutants in a full-blown way in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show, which is not MCU canon at the moment as per reports, will have Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, and many others enjoying the spotlight after a very long time. If the reports are to be believed, even Magneto and Mr. Sinister have a big role to play in the Disney+ show. The plot will revolve around the mutant discourse and will follow the old theme of discussing real-world problems like racism, inequality, and more with metaphors.
The show will release on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar (in India). It will be one in the list of Marvel shows debuting on Disney+ and will join Echo in the list for 2024. Whether this show is under Marvel Spotlight or not is a mystery as of now. X-Men ’97 will be released on the streaming platform from March 20, when the first two episodes will go on air. The show will have one episode released every Wednesday after that and will have the finale aired on May 15, 2024. In all, the new Marvel Cinematic Universe show has 10 episodes, which is the highest count of episodes for an MCU X Disney+ show so far.
What is interesting in the release format this time is that the season finale is divided into three parts, and this is the first time Marvel is trying this release format. Titled "Tolerance Is Existence," the finale will run for three parts, which is the last three episodes of X-Men ’97 season one. There are no details on how the finale will be divided by the plot.
Marvel officially announced the titles and the release dates on their X (formerly called Twitter) handle. Sharing it, they wrote, “In two weeks, tune in to the two-episode premiere of Marvel Animation's #XMen97, only on @DisneyPlus.” The list and the release dates are as follows:
Episode 4 - "Motendo / Lifedeath – Pt 1" - April 3
Episode 5 - "Remember It" - April 10
Episode 6 - "Lifedeath – Pt 2" - April 17
Episode 7 - "Bright Eyes" - April 27
Episode 8 - "Tolerance is Extinction – Pt 1" - May 1
Episode 9's "Tolerance is Extinction – Pt 2" - May 8
Episode 10, "Tolerance is Extinction – Pt 3" - May 15
