Coolie, the Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil action thriller might not have met the expectations of audience, but is out there to break the box office records. The film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has made good numbers and records, and is also now the highest Tamil grosser this year so far.

Coolie box office game has been different given the film opened to middling reviews but has been doing decent at the cash registrars. After seeing a dip and back to earning good, Coolie has so far collected Rs 263.85 crore as per Sacnilk. There are also reports saying that the Rajinikanth film has crossed Rs 500 crore at the box office worldwide.

Currently, Coolie is the highest grosser in Tamil cinema so far this year. It is also the highest grossing film with an A certificate from the south industry, the buzz indicates. Coolie had received the A certificate at the time of release. Only recently did the makers petition to the High Court seeking a U/A certificate, claiming the film does not contain violent scenes that a child cannot watch.

Coolie had opened to middling reviews during the release, given the expectations on the Rajinikanth-Lokesh Kanagaraj collaboration was high. However, with it being the solo Tamil release and not any major films to compete with, it dominated the box office.

Coolie’s post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Prime Video. The streaming platform is expected to announce the release date sometime in September. With an ensemble star cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan and others, Coolie is an action thriller and does not come under LCU. It revolves around mansion owner Deva who goes after those responsible for his friend’s death, resulting in him finding out a crime syndicate he has a past history with.
