July OTT releases in Tamil

We are nearing the end of June, and that means nearly half of 2025 is over. While it is only in the second half of the year, we are going to see some interesting releases, the first half comes with its own pros and cons. There have been star films that were a letdown, some good light-hearted films that won hearts, surprises and disappointments, and interesting releases which deserved more love. As we step into July in a couple of weeks, here are the OTT releases in July to look forward to.

Most-awaited Tamil OTT releases in July 2025 on JioHotstar, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Sony LIV, Aha, ZEE5

Thug Life – Netflix

Thug Life is a Tamil action-drama film starring actor Kamal Haasan in the lead role and is directed by Mani Ratnam. Netflix has bagged the post-theatrical rights of the film. While before the release of Thug Life, Kamal Haasan had said that there would bean eight-week window period, talks are on to reduce the gap after the reception the film received after release. The cast of Thug Life includes Simbu, Trisha, Nasser, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi and others.

Madras Matinee - TBD

Madras Matinee is directed by filmmaker Karthikeyan Mani, and stars actors Sathyaraj, Kaali Venkat, Roshini Haripriyan, Shelly, Vishwa, George Mariyan, Archana Chandhoke, Sunil Sugatha, Madhumitha, Syams, Geetha Kailasam, Banupriya, and others. The cinematography is handled by Anand GK, with music composed by KC Balasarangan. Editing is done by Satheesh Kumar Samuski, and art direction is by Jackie. Madras Matinee is about a sci-fi writer who is challenged by his caretaker to write a story about a common man.

Kuberaa – Prime Video

Kuberaa is directed by Sekhar Kammula and stars Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh. The intense drama thriller is a cat-and-mouse chase between the richest and poorest man in the country. The film talks about the concept of money, greed, and intelligence. Backed by Sree Venkateswara Cinemas LLP, and Amigos Creations Pvt Ltd Producers, the film has music scored by Devi Sri Prasad. The technical crew also includes production design by Thota Tharani and Niketh Bommi cranking the camera. Karthika Srinivas is the editor.

DNA – JioHotstar

DNA is a thriller drama starring Atharvaa and Nimisha Sajayan in the lead roles. Directed by Nelson Venkatesan, who made films like Farhana and Monster, DNA revolves around a married couple and how their lives turn upside down after the birth of their child. Balaji Sakthivel, Ramesh Thilak, Viji Chandrasekar, Chetan, Riythvika KP, Subramanian Siva, Karunakaran, and Pasanga Sivakumar are part of the cast.

Intense dramas to watch on OTT

Maargan – Prime Video

Maargan is a mystery thriller with a supernatural element. Directed by editor Leo John Paul, the film features Vijay Antony in the lead role. He plays the role of a cop in the detective fiction and has to nab a criminal who seems to have powers more than an average human. Samuthirakani, Brigida Saga, Mahanathi Shankar, Prithika, Vinodh Sagar, Deepshikha, Kalakka Povadhu Yaaru Archana, Kanimozhi, and Anthagaram Natarajan are part of the cast.

Love Marriage

Love Marriage is a Vikram Prabhu-starrer helmed by debutant filmmaker Shanmuga Priyan. The film is a family drama that explores the struggles of late marriage for men. It features Sushmitha Bhat, Meenakshi Dinesh, Ramesh Thilak, Aruldoss, Gajaraj, Muruganantham, and Kodangi Vadivelu, among others, in pivotal roles, with Sathyaraj making a cameo appearance.
